Biography
Dramatic mezzo-soprano Sofia Gold has earned a reputation as a compelling performer on the international opera stage, admired for her rich, dark-hued voice and commanding dramatic presence.
Her signature roles include Azucena (Il trovatore), Amneris (Aida) and Carmen. In 2024 she made her acclaimed debut as Azucena at the Tatarstan State Opera and Ballet Theatre, returning in 2025 for the Shalyapin Opera Festival — one of Russia's oldest opera festivals.
Recent seasons have brought Amneris in Aida at the Jerusalem Opera Festival, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly under Maestro Vag Papyan, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with the Israel Chamber Orchestra under Maestro Patrick Baton, and Dalila and Carmen in gala concert under Maestro Vag Papyan.
A laureate of the International Competition of Opera Composers of the 21st Century (2014), Sofia trained at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre in Moscow.
Sofia has appeared at renowned venues including the Tatarstan State Opera and Ballet Theatre (Kazan), the Jerusalem Opera Festival, the Stanislavsky Music Theatre, the TRIKSTER Theatre and the Turandot Palace. In 2023 she sang Carmen, Maddalena in Rigoletto and La Frugola in Il tabarro at the CONLUCIA Theatre, and her portrayal of the Countess in an immersive production of The Queen of Spades was featured in HELLO! magazine.
In December 2025 she appeared as Larina in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Yoel Levi, and in February 2026 she sang Amneris in Aida in Israel under Maestro Gil Shohat.
An active concert artist, Sofia performs chamber works by Respighi and Wagner, Verdi's Requiem and Rossini's Petite messe solennelle. She has appeared as a soloist with the Moscow State Academic Chamber Choir under Vladimir Minin.
Sofia continues to expand her repertoire and develop new projects and concert programmes, appearing at festivals and cultural events across Europe and beyond.
